Lost
LYRICS
Why you always on my back? Always playing me like that E'ryone following some nonsense beliefs We gotta stop and think You running and follow these so-called truths While soon enough Soon enough... Another day, another battle War ragin’ ‘round us, yet we stand like cattle. With all our hopes and dreams burnin' 'This is the end of the road' Is what most of us are learnin’ "Justice" What a funny word Protecting us from evil? Damn...that’s absurd. All our fates trapped in a warhead, Just consider us as good as dead. Police forces and drug cartels, Pretty much the same, it's easy to tell. Keeping us in line with their murder and jails Execution revolution Rise up or we fail (chorus) There's blood on my hands But even more on the hands of the place I fled Orders said send lead to heads We livin’ under constant threat of death Makin’ me question what’s worse, Livin’ back there, or in a hearse? I can’t go back and my fam can’t come back … from the grave Feel bullets whiz past They go by fast But my heart beats faster still cuz they comin’ for da kill no matta what we do We gum on they shoe the reason for they hate? the black mark on their slate I had to get out of there or else my soul would tear Pulling out my hair while running like a hare To get away from all of this Escape is our only bliss (chorus) I lived in simple times So I wrote simple rhymes But now times have changed So my rhymes ain’t the same These struggles messed up my mind Now all I have is the daily grind, And that is more than fine 'Cause there's no more threat of death My life is still uncertain War covering my past like a curtain Whose blood is on my hands Is it the victims or the killer Whose blood is on my hands Is it the rich or the poor Whose blood is on my hands Is it the cartels or the government Whose blood is on my hands As long as it's blood it doesn't matter |
ANALYSIS
The first part of this song was written with the lives of innocent civilians in mind. Whether it's from government corruption in countries such as Mexico and Zimbabwe or from cyber and chemical warfare, civilians are forced to live in unwarranted danger due to their government's decisions. The line "War ragin' 'round us, yet we stand like cattle," represents citizens who are required to continue their daily lives normally in the midst of a war, obeying every command without a second thought. "Keeping us in line with their murder and jails" conveys the fear of citizens who disagree with the corruption in government. If they so much as speak against it, their lives are endangered. is this done? The chorus conveys the overall message of our song. The speaker notices the blood stained on his hands; this blood symbolizes the negative effects on the people. Blood can create a stain, just like the antagonist is producing a "stain" on the people. The second portion of our song is meant to try and capture the tension and fear of living in war-like conditions. Although our lines signify traditional wars with guns, the overall concept is applicable to chemical warfare, cyber warfare, and nuclear warfare as well. Bullets “whizzing past” is, unfortunately, a common occurrence in many unstable countries. In countries where political corruption has become rampant, citizens become refugees trying to escape incredibly quickly. People run away before they and their families are hurt. The lines “To get away from all this/ Escape is our only bliss” symbolise the situations of refugees across the globe. For example, hundreds of thousands of refugees have been continually fleeing from Zimbabwe in hopes of a better life away from a corrupt country. This final section conveys the relief of civilians who have escaped the horrors of their previous home. “Now all I have is the daily grind/ And that is more than fine/ ‘Cause there’s no more threat of death” is something we, as Americans, take for granted. But for people in corrupt and unstable countries all across the world, the most basic of human rights, living without fear of death on a daily basis, isn’t a guarantee. These people have to fight for it and abandon their lives in hopes of safety. |
CONTROL
Control can be found anywhere you look. From an older sibling controlling TV rights to the president of a country staying in power for decades, control has always been the go to way to get things your way. However, having too much control often leads to abuse of power, corruption, and a worsened society. This worsened society, as a result of poor control, has become ever-present in the modern world. These issues result from governments keeping control, like political corruption in nations such as Mexico and Zimbabwe, or from the same governments trying to gain control in the first place, by using things like contemporary warfare - whether it be nuclear, cyber, or chemical in nature. Not only is it used by those in official positions; it is common in the criminal underworld as well. This has been proven by the years-long conflicts in South-and-Central America, where drug manufacturing, trafficking, and trade is rampant.
No matter how serious these offenses may be, they will never compare to the worst outcome - the strain on human life placed on the millions of innocent civilians affected by it. All of the instances that served as inspiration and a basis to the lyrics are ways that people try to gain, attain, or maintain control. Recently, Iran and the United States signed a deal concerning the ways Iran produced and stockpiled weapons-grade Uranium, and prevented major aspects of nuclear weapons production in Iran. Much of the world's power is decided by who has the best weapons, so this deal served as a way for the US to keep the power it has while making sure rival countries did not gain any. The same serves true with cyber warfare, as various nations attempt to stay ahead of the pack by infiltrating the computer networks of others in order to boost their intelligence. In lesser developed nations, corrupt governments will do anything they can to make sure that their government stays in place, and the people stay submissive. Either way, in the end, most things are done in the pursuit of control.
